Concept of recurrence in Fistula afer surgery

Fistula in ano – In general kshar sutra treatment cures Fistula in ano completely. The recurrence rates are practically nil (less than 10%) but any treatment including kshar sutra can not prevent Fistula formation at any other site. So, this thing must kept in mind that kshar sutra treatment is curative not preventive. Sometimes it is also seen that there are formation of Fistula track at different site even during the course of treatment. Kshara sutra treatment is not the cause of such Fistula formation. These are independent of the treatment.

However it is a proven fact by various researches and trials done by ICMR, PGI Chandigarh, AIIMS New Delhi that Kshara sutra treatment results are better than other methods of surgeries like Fistulectomy, Fistulotomy etc.

Fissure in ano – Kshar sutra or surgery only helps in curing the current Fissure wound but if digestion is not good or stool is hard, Fissure may reoccur at same or at different site at anal canal. If patient can avoid constipation by diet management, the chances of recurrence are almost nil.
